NICC Membership

NICC is a non-profit artists initiative run by and for artists, it is founded by professional visual artists in order to advocate their rights. Our aim is to set up a qualitative social framework within which the autonomous artistic practice can develop professionally.

NICC functions as a mediator between the artists and the government, art organizations, and other actors in the cultural field. In addition to a program of social actions, reflection, and research, the NICC presents an artistic program of lectures, exhibitions, symposiums, and presentations on contemporary professional practice.

The starting point of 'APPARATUS' is the common trap where like-minded and stylistically resembling artists are lumped together in an exhibition. Every edition of 'APPARATUS' will take off from a point of 'not knowing'. Even the artists, participants or partners have no idea what the common thread through the exhibition will be. Each artist enters three suggestions into the archive of possible subjects, which will carry on throughout the lifespan of the larger project. 'APPARATUS' then provides a group of wildly different artists an object randomly chosen from their archive as a shared source of inspiration, from which totally new work will be conceived, surprising both artists and visitors. 'APPARATUS' has provided us with 'the egg' as the main focus, leading to the name of the project's first edition, APPARATUS: OVUM.
